How to get here
We are based in the beautiful village of Newton St. Loe, just West of Bath. Our address is The Bird of Prey Project, The Grain Store, Workshop Lane, Newton St. Loe, Bath BA2 9BT.
Parking
We free have Parking on site. Follow the signs to the parking under the barn roof, behind the Newton Farm Shop and Cafe.
Public Transport
X39 and A4 buses run regularly from Bath Spa Bus Station and Bristol Temple Meads station, both stopping at ‘The Globe’ which is a 10 minute walk from our centre. We are a 20 minute taxi ride from Bath Spa Train Station.
What there is to do at The Bird of Prey Project
We recommend dedicating around 1-2 hours to a visit at our centre and timing it with one of our flying displays, but you are welcome to stay as long as you like! If you are taking part in one of our experiences you may want to factor in longer. Admission tickets and Experience bookings enable you to come and go as much as you please for the full day, so feel free to pop out and come back in!
- Meet over 18 of our birds in their aviaries
- Explore our Conservation Station – an interactive display about British Grasslands and conservation
- Watch a flying display (30-45 minutes) at 11am and 2:30pm on days we are open. Please note we occasionally have to cancel these in adverse weather, keep an eye on our social media or website.
- Take part in a Fly a Bird group experience, at 1pm daily
- Enjoy a private experience with our birds – Hawk Walks and Owl Encounters. Book both in one day and receive 25% off!
The local area
- Newton Farm Shop and Cafe: Need some refreshments? Enjoy locally sourced food and drink from Newton Farm Shop and cafe. They are right next door to us! They also have an exciting play area available for customers, and pigs and goats to visit.
- Public play area: A public playground can be accessed via the village of Newton St. Loe. Ask our team for directions!
- Local Walks: There are lots of beautiful walks you can do in the area local to us, including the Newton Circular.
- Bath City Farm: Based in the nearby area of Twerton, Bath City Farm is free to visit and has plenty of animals to meet and projects to explore, and an excellent cafe. Pairing it with The Bird of Prey Project would make an excellent day out!
FAQs
Yes! For all those who want to and can do so, free flight is an important part of their daily routine. We work with our birds using a modern welfare practice – consent-based high trust behaviour training (in simple terms, they call the shots in a stress free and relaxed environment). For some individuals, they may spend upwards of an hour at ‘tame hack’ (totally unsupervised independent time)
You can have a go at having a bird fly to your gloved hand during a Hawk Walk or an Owl Encounter, or join in for our Fly a Bird for £12 a session when you book your Day Tickets, but we don’t stroke our birds in best interest of their welfare.
Displays last 30-45 minutes and are suitable for all ages, as well as being accessible for wheelchairs. Seating can be limited on very busy days, so all the more reason to get in early and walk about the centre beforehand. If you need to arrive or leave part way through – that’s fine!

Yes we are fully insured, licensed and inspected as a Zoo with local council and with DEFRA. Many of our other areas of work such as career training, conservation, and more are inspected/regulated too.
Yes! Collaborating with other great charities, organisations and individuals is essential for much of our conservation and welfare work.
Members of our team can visit to do talks or hold stalls or workshops, but we don’t take our birds off site in the interest of their welfare.
Our charity was founded in 2013, and we moved to our current location in 2017.
