What is the UKs biggest bird of prey?

Last week we were so excited to be joined by the UKs LARGEST species of raptor – the White Tailed Sea Eagle! With a wingspan up to 2 and a half metres and a weight up to 5kg, these birds look like a flying barn door in the air!

With about 150 pairs estimated accross the UK, there are hopes to see the population naturally increase to its former number, before they were eradicated in the UK due to persecution. The species was re-introduced in the UK, thanks to the efforts of dedicated conservationists. Last year the first wild bred chick hatched in the Isle of Wight in 240 years!

In 2024 we were thrilled to be joined by Sophie from Eagle Re-introduction Wales, talking about the species reintroduction plan she has been working on, as well as the wonderful Emma and ALex from the British Bird of Prey Centre who joined us with their Sea Eagle Aquarius!
