We would like to say a huge thank you to Amy who has just finished an 8 month internship with us! Amy was our first Bird Keeper Intern and has been an amazing addition to our team. Amy carried out her internship alongside her studies in Animal Science and Agriculture. At the centre she has gained practical experience in avian care, management for health, and enclosure maintenance. She has been leading free flight displays for our visitors, and always welcomes all our visitors with a smile and an enthusiasm to share her knowledge of Birds of Prey. We cannot thank her enough for her dedication to The Bird of Prey Project.

Here’s Amy’s blog about her internship:

I was honoured to be given the opportunity of an Internship at the Project. It allowed me to work as a senior member of the team, and gain a vast amount of experience working with all 22 of the birds. My favourite skill I have learnt is lure swinging for Casper, the thrill and excitement when he comes to the lure is just unmatched! I have also really enjoyed watching the birds learn and excel with new voluntary behaviours such as crate training and shaping voluntary restraint.

My favourite memory was flying Casper on British Bird of Prey Day, the atmosphere was just sensational!

I cannot thank the incredible team at the Project enough for all the opportunities they have given me, I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today without them! The team are so welcoming and supportive and very enthusiastic to pass on their own knowledge and experience.

I’m really sad the internship has come to an end, but its nice to be able to sit back and reflect on the most amazing 8 months of my life!
