At the end of last year we lost Paula Hookings.  Paula volunteered at The Bird of Prey Project twice a week, and it was a great shock to lose her.  We will all miss the kindness, generosity and care that she gave to all the people she worked with as well as the birds here at the centre.

Patrick, Senior Bird Keeper, pays tribute to Paula:

‘Paula meant so much to so many different people and animals. She was a huge part of her community, organising activities for people’s mental health and wellbeing, as well as spending much of her own time helping to reunite owners with their lost pets through her lost and found page, and working with Cats Protection. Not to mention being a fantastic part of our team at the project for the last two years. I’d like to think that  Paula, with her no nonsense optimism, would like for us to keep on keeping on, and carry on the brilliant work that she’d dedicated herself to, and that’s exactly what we’ll do.’

We have put up a plaque on Bella’s brand new aviary, to honour Paula’s memory. You can see the plaque when you visit the centre
